School History....
The Judith McCarty School of Dancing is a Texarkana
“original”. The oldest dancing school in the Four States
Area grew from the efforts of Judith McCarty Hansen
who moved to Texarkana in 1947 and started the first
dancing school in the area.
A gifted teacher and choreographer, Miss Judy served as President of the Texas Association Teachers of Dancing as well as Chairman of the Board of Examiners. She was an instructor/member of the Southern Association of Dance Masters and the Cecchetti Council of America.
Miss Judy was a Charter Member and served as the first President of the Texarkana Community Ballet.
She wrote the definitive textbook on Tap Dancing, “Technique and Theory of Tap Dancing”.
Her 55 years of teaching produced some of the finest performers on the professional stage today. Many teachers in Texarkana and across the Southwest received their teachers training from "Miss Judy".
The exceptional faculty that she put together continues
the unchallenged quality and dedication to dance that
"Miss Judy" demanded.
